RIV Construction Group Completes Three New Kohl’s Projects
Published: 10/22/2011

This fall marked the opening of three new stores that RIV Construction Group (RIV) has completed for Kohl’s, the nation’s third-largest department store chain.
In support of Kohl’s efforts to constantly improve its customer experience by upgrading its layout, design and construction standards, RIV built one store from the ground up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and completed takeover projects in Roanoke, Virginia and Easton, Maryland.
At the Williamsport location, RIV successfully overcame unforeseeable third-party and weather-related site delays to complete the 64,000 square foot building as scheduled in just 16 weeks. We also helped earn the store a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by using environmentally safe, energy-efficient materials and systems while adhering to strict building standards.
In Roanoke, RIV partitioned the 117,200 square foot space of an existing Walmart store to build both a new 99,600 square foot Kohl’s store as well as an additional 17,600 square foot building shell for a future tenant. In Easton, RIV transformed a former Lowe’s home improvement center into the new 54,000 square foot Kohl’s. Both takeovers were also completed in an average of 16 weeks.
The new stores range in value from $2.1M to $2.9M, and are integral components of Kohl’s expansion plans that included the launch of 40 new stores in 2011. To date, RIV has completed 25 projects during its five-year relationship with the S&P Fortune 500 retailer.
